To welcome in 2008, the Australia-Japan Society of the ACT is pleased to invite you to the first event of the year, the annual Shinnenkai, - New Year’s Party. 

Enjoy some fine food and great company at Canberra’s premier Japanese restaurant, Iori.

A banquet will be prepared so there is no need to be a connoisseur of Japanese cuisine

Any special dietary requirements will be catered for

Kite Making/Flying

Make and fly your own kite!

Japanese kite maker/artist, Mr Oda, will visit Canberra to give instruction on kite making. After finishing making your kites at the Multi Cultural Centre, we will go to the Commonwealth Park to fly the kites.

All welcome. For those wish to purchase a kit, please contact Canberra Japan Club as the number of kits are limited.

AJS TENPIN BOWLING FUN DAY

All friends and family of AJS is invited to come along and enjoy and afternoon of tenpin bowling hosted by the Australia Japan Society

Date:    Saturday, 10 November 2007
Venue:  AMF Bowling Centre
                (1 Emu Bank Belconnen)
Cost:  $25 per person

Includes 2 games, shoe hire, burger or wedges plus one beer, wine or soft drink.

Gagaku

Gagaku (??, literally "elegant music") is a type of Japanese classical music that has been performed at the Imperial court for several centuries. This month, the Kintanodai Gagaku Orchestra will be performing around the ACT and New South Wales.

Admission to all concerts is free

The Australia-Japan Society is organising another softball Day as follows: 

Time:    11am – 4pm
Date:    Sunday, 30 September 2007
Venue:  Willows Oval, ANU
                (Corner of Barry Drive and North Road)

 

Teams:

  1. Japan Club ANU Team
  2. Japan Club Canberra University Team
  3. Australia-Japan Society/CJC/JETAA Team
  4. Embassy of Japan Team

The winner will receive a perpetual shield.

Schedule:

  • 10:30: -------- Arrive at Willows Oval, warm up
  • 11:00: -------- Opening Ceremony
  • 11:15-12:45: First Game
  • 12:45-13:30: BBQ lunch
  • 13:30-14:30: Second Game
  • 14:40-15:40: Third Game
  • 15:50-16:00: Prize giving ceremony

AJS will organise BBQ, onigiri and other Japanese food  for $7 per person.  Gold coin donation is welcome to cover the cost of hiring the oval.

THE AJS ANNUAL DINNER

Guest speaker will be the Mayor of Queanbeyan Frank Pangallo. Mayor Pangallo and Queanbeyan have a long history of relations with Japan and we look forward to hearing much more about it on the night.

Bob McMullan, member for Fraser and Shadow Minister for State and Territory Relations will also attend the dinner,

This night promises to be an entertaining night with great food.
